Many thanks to Didjshop for opening up a great way of keeping in touch with fellow players!! Good onya guys!!!
I have always been interested in didj and sound healing and would love to hear from those players out there who do this on a regular basis.
Where is the best place for one to start? What type of didge should be used and would you suggest using a particular key in relation to the chakras of the body or simply using one didj in more of a meditational type of approach?

Hällö,
if you are interested in playing an instrument and feeling it's sound at the same time in your body, I suggest to find somebody or someplace with a gong. The bigger the gong, the better the effect. Than stand or sit down in front of it and play. In and slightly off the center are the singing tones, toward the edge are the 'wuuush' sounds. On some spots you might find both.
Gongs are great tools to experience oneself, since they nicely reflect ones action as sound. Strike quietly, and the gong will answer quietly. Hit it really hard, and a huge wave of sound will blast back at you. (That's why I suggest using a big gong).
If your didge and the gong seem to be more or less in tune, play your didge while stricking the gong following your feeling. Soon you will be journeying through inner spaces!
For the self-explorers I would like to suggest the 'fearmeter' method:
Play a gong while slowly increasing the volume and feel-observe your inner 'stress-levels'. If you feel fear, panic or other emotional stress, you can choose to lower the volume, to keep it or to increase it. If you have the opportunity, try this regulary, it is a great experience.

PS: Good gongs, especially the bigger ones, are rather expensive, but they are also amazing instruments, that require neither musical knowledge, nor playing techniques. Just like a didge.

Maybe you don't have to be able to read musical notation to make noise with a gong or didj, but you must agree that playing technique makes a big difference between relaxing sound and irritating noise!

Hällö,
"...but you must agree that playing technique makes a big difference between relaxing sound and irritating noise!"
Yes and No!
It all comes down to the context of your playing:
Yes, if you play with or for other people (musical context).
No, if you are just expressing yourself for yourself (therapeutical context without audience).
At times the difference is not easy to tell!

Hällö,
well, if I say no playing techniques, I actually mean little. Because to me, compared to when I play a drum set or congas, gongs seem relatively 'easy and user-friendly' to play.
For the didge, once a solid tone and the circular breathing are achieved, it all depends how much virtuosity you want to develop playing it. This does not only depend on your ability to learn techniques, but also on your creative talents and your musicality.
That virtuosity part is a tricky thing in music, especially in playing instruments.
Any music teacher will have to admit, that often some of his students try very very hard, but they don't have a great amount of creative talent and will never be great players, while the same teacher would probably complain about the more creative students, because after the initial enthousiasm, they usually take things rather easy.
And with musicality it's actually worse, because you have it, or you don't, one can't really learn that.

Hi,
I agree with you about didjshop - I just discovered this terrific place to connect with like spirits!
Speaking of spirit, I have been doing didj healing for years, since the day I got my first didjeridoo! I couldn'e even circular breath yet. It came as naturally to me as, well, breathing! The didj focuses my own healing energy and spirit, at least in my experience (check out my website (below) for more on that).
For healing I play a Dreamtime Pipe - an agave didjeridoo made by an agave master like no other, Alan Shockley (see
http://www.allanshockley.com/ ).
Beleive it or not, though I have a preference for natural materials, I think PVC makes a very nice, resonant and light healing didj, especially if you make it yourself with a meditational and reverent attitude during the process. I like to decorate the PVC so it looks more natural of course. After sanding to roughen the surface, I use that artifical "stone" spray on coating to give the didj a natural texture and color (at most hardware stores) then paint the didj in my own style.
Dreamtime Pipes are wonderfully resonant and lightweight didjeridoos. I find the key of D is ideal for healing. I play intuitively, and in my personal subjective experience I am "channeling" energy, similar to other forms as healing like Reiki. The energy and "spirit" of the player are as important, or more so, than the actual physicial sound I believe. So "where you are at" or intention is more important than your technical skill with the didj. My healing "songs" seem to be more rythmic than meditational, depending on the area or chakra been focused upon. I cam play very strong and loud (rarely), for "punching through" certain blockages to soft and droning for a more peaceful meditational energy. There are no rules...just let the didj inspire you! For me, inspired by indigenous people world wide, especial Native American, I like to say a prayer before I do a healing (just to myself), and smudge or purify myself and the didj first. But you can find your own way, inspired by this beautiful instrument and the Aboriginal culture that shares it with us.
Happy New Year!
