Hello,
This is my first post here. I play the didgeridoo for half a year. I've learned a lot and I still have lot's to learn and discover.
This board is and has been a tremendous help. I found an answer in the archive to just about every question I had. Thank you all for sharing information and for sharing your love for the didge.

I play every day, however a week ago I had to skip three days. On the last of these days I got an acute, tremendous pain in both my jaws. Painkillers did not help. I was able to make an appointment with the dentist for the following day. Meanwhile the pain got worse. In desperation I started blowing the didgeridoo. Within 15 minutes all the pain was gone!
The next day at the dentist it turned out I had severe inflammation of my gums, plus a hole in a molar. I'm on antibiotics now, after that there will be further treatment. I play the didge every day again and I'm without pain.

I thought I'd share this experience with you. I don't say the playing of the didgeridoo replaces treatment, inflammation of the gums is serious bussiness and should be treated. However, if you've got it and are in serious pain, you may try this. You may have a very effective non-chemical painkiller nearby.

Welcome to the forum, Bert.

Interesting information. I know the didj relaxes me and I know that a friend of my wife said that hearing the didj lessoned pain from MS.

But - get the teeth fixed - didj or not, they will eventually make you very sick.

Hi Paul,
It's ok, I'm aware of the risks, so I went to the dentist and I'll have to go a few time's more.
I'm playing for half a year now, first on a rented didge, now on a didge I bought. Looking back, I got the pain when I started playing the rented one. I thought it had to do with my mouth adjusting to the vibrations. Pain went away after a few days. Came back when I started to play the new didge, pain was much heavier.
So now I think I caught the inflammation (bacteria) from someone else playing the didge before me. And of course I hadn't visited a dentist for many years, so the bacteria found a welcome home.
Oh well, lesson learned, I won't play on someone else's didge, and nobody gets to play mine...
But, though no substitution for treatment, in this case blowing the didge seems a pretty good substitution for painkillers.

It is good you found the problem. Perhaps if you want to use another's didj you could sterilize it with a weak bleach solution or maybe one of these sprays on the market that say they kill germs.

Good luck with the dentist.
