Unless your concerns are cosmetic, you should be fine with the indentations. The wax will seal the exposed wood as good, if not better than any paint ot laquer. Be careful though with laquers, especially spray-on type. They are great, but the solvents in them that allow it to be sprayed also can dissolve the paint on your didj, depending on what type of paint it is. I would hate to see the paint run and smear.
